Finally, after years of procrastination, months of contemplation, weeks of dedication, and countless nights of sleep deprivation, yello77.com is finally online. That’s right, my very own weblog/personal site of expression. Thanks to wordpress.org, I was able to implement their advanced and easy to customize weblog software and database onto my very own domain. Gotta give credit to them.
As most of you already know, my life revolves around art and design. Recently I’ve also become quite the prolific photographer. Despite the world wide web being the simplest and most economical way to publish, the thought of starting my own site had been up in the air for a few years. Though several attempts at this daunting project had been executed, however, none bore any fruit. I was in deep conflict: I was in constant debate with my inner design nerd, I was never satisfied with the results and my mediocre web developing skills were of no help at all.
Finally one day, I said to myself, “I just want a blog– simple, live, and dynamic.” Something that could be easily updated without having to constantly going back to a web editor to add content.
In addition to the basic artsy stuff, I would also like to share other topics of interest such as food, music, video, news, event, philosophy, personal updates, and most importantly, stay connected with my friends. Therefore, anyone who visits yello77.com is welcome to share his or her two cents.
As for naming the URL, yello77.com, I took quite some time to come up with an address that describes something about myself. I came with a list of words that described my background, culture, and the generation that I am a part of. All that, and it has to sound catchy enough to attract visitors. Some URL rejects include yello27.com, angryyelloman.com, and caveboy.com. With yello27.com. Even though the number 27 is the month and date of my birthday, it was a little too personal and it could mean anything to anybody. Thanks to blogger member GingerGirl’s feedback (my girlfriend), the number 27 was dropped and replaced with the 77. It is the year of my birth, as this website is geared towards those readers who are in the same generation as I am, it would be a good number for them to identify with. While angryyelloman.com sounded quite nice and in-your-face about me as an individual, I feel that it did not describe my website at all. I’m not angry at all times, just sometimes. I wanted a website to be as much about myself as it is about my passion for the arts, photography, and my expression. Not just about the color of my skin and how it effects my daily life. Caveboy.com had always been a URL that I wanted to use. It has been my alias since college. Unfortunately, that one had long been purchased by someone who doesn’t even have a functioning page. Bast*rd! I wanted it.
Overall, I think yello77.com suits my needs the best. It’s simple, light, and it’s almost as infamous sounding as the secret agent 007. I will be secret Asian Yell-077.
