This photo shoot was organized by Brandon Herman of The New York Pin-Up Photography Meetup Group from Meetup.com.

Present at the event were 15 to 20 photographers, ranging from beginner to professional, and a handful of models. It was great watching how these photographers directed the models for each shot, staged the props and calibrated the lighting. It is definitely a fantastic learning experience for anyone who’s interested in fashion photography.

The theme of this event was Winter Wonderland. The studio was decorated with wads of cotton “snow” and lots of snowflake ornaments. Models in vintage-styled fashion, posed with seasonal props such as a sled, a pair of skis, a stuffed penguin, six- packs of Coca-Cola. Occasionally, there would be snowfall– a white confetti tossed onto the models from behind the scenes. Extremely playful. Hope you enjoy the photos!

NOTE: Models, if you want high-res copies of your photos, please shoot me an email at <hoyu.yiu@yello77.com> and I will send you a link where you’ll be able to download the photos. (What is showcased here is only about 70% of what I’ve shot, so feel free to ask about the other photos.

This was my very first Meetup.com meeting with the "New York Digital Photographers!" group. I got to meet quite a few photography enthusiasts like myself. Especially Erika who works for Canon. So she will certainly be in my fav 5 if I can get her number… jk…

Although the day reached a frigid temperature, it was still a pretty fun and friendly experience…aside from my runny nose, that is. We met up in the lower Manhattan area (Chinatown, Little Italy, and Bowery area). There were roughly 20 to 30 photographers there, and everyone was moving really fast so there was really no time to pick and choose the subject and the kind of story I wanted to tell. Instead, I photographed everything guerilla style…basically, that’s shoot and run.

Photos are posted chronologically, in the order that they were taken.
All photos were shot in Raw Format with my Canon Rebel. Using a 50mm f/1.4 Lens, 200 ISO.
Photos were processed with Apples Aperture and Photoshop CS3.

Testing my camera setting and snapped a shot of one of the Meetup member, Emm Ess.

Someone commented that the clouds were nice. So I got a shot of that.

Clear evidence that we were on Mulberry Street.

I have an obsession with door bells, door locks, and metal doors. Rusty looking elements are naturally rustic.

Fuhgedaboudit!!!

I love vintage anything.

He just happened to be in my shot. And I like how this came out with the cigarette dangling from his mouth.

$2.50 each? That’s quite expensive!

Cactus vendor on Mulberry Street. Everyone was taking pictures of them and well, I didn’t want to be left out.

This way to Holland.

The first photo inside the Buddhist Temple on the corner of Canal and Bowery.

Disco Buddha?

This guy wasn’t supposed to be in the photo. But oh well.

They threw everything out including…the kitchen sink.

More nice clouds.

Here’s a group photo with our organizer, Lyndon; Millard Cook; and two other people I do not know, sorry about that folks.

She’s been a very, very bad mannequin.

See the pretty locks?

…and more locks.

Hope you enjoyed all the photos.
