Sue & Bo Chen, The Christmas Wedding of 2009

Post by fotolistic on February 28th, 2010   In Category : Photography, Weddings

Sue and Bo, if you are reading this; your wedding photographs are finally done! So many photos. All great moments. I put up so many on this blog that it’s actually taking a toll on the loading time of this page. So have some patience and let it load. Trust me, it’s worth it.

This was a Christmas wedding, Boxing Day to be exact. The very last photo shoot of 2009 for me and I took my sweet time editing them. Yes, shame on me. But anyway, let’s cut to the chase. I know that everyone is anxious to see them. So here’s their wedding story.

Like most brides on their wedding day, Sue and her maids started at the crack of dawn with their hair and make-up.
And what a fine job by the stylist.

Some of the bridesmaids also pitched in with the make-up. Carmen has the precision of a heart surgeon.

Some final touches.

One last check in the mirror.

Plus the dress and the heels.

Can’t forget the rings.

Ta-da! Doesn’t she look beautiful?

Meanwhile, our groom, Bo has been patiently waiting in the limousine for his cue to enter the bride’s residence.

All prepared and smiling with confidence.

While we wait, I got a couple of photos of the groom and his groomsmen.

Finally gained entry into the house. However, there’s more. Bo has to prove that he is worthy to take Sue as his wife by completing a series of tasks the bridesmaids had cooked up for them.

Trying to pin the apples against the wall. Which was easy, since he used the same technique on Sue once or so I heard.

Then it was everybody’s favorite– Seeing who looked better with a bra on. The men thoroughly enjoyed this one.

This one was hard. Finding red M&M’s in a dish of whipped cream using only his mouth. What a sport!

After all that, the bridesmaids finally got their red envelope from the groom. However, they weren’t that impressed by the sum.

The bridesmaids were kind enough to let Bo through anyway.
As soon as he saw her, well– he showed his love in his own way.

After the wedding party had their hours of fun and laughs,
the parents of the bride quickly carried out with what really matters in an asian wedding.
The tea ceremony and the gifts. And gifts and gifts and gifts.

Who wouldn’t be smiling like that when one is all blinged out?!

Her first bite to eat of the day.

Getting ready to head down to the limousine. Bo kindly helped Sue put on her heels. How sweet is that.

Some fun shots in the limousine while we were all waiting in the car for the rain to stop before taking photos on the Bay Ridge promenade.
Unfortunately, the rain never stopped at all that afternoon. So they just got back to partying in the limo

No he is not drunk. Just tired. Apparently he didn’t get much sleep the night before. I wondered what happen.

Finally, the rain did stop for a bit and we decided to go for some outdoor photos.
I was amazed at how Sue and her bridesmaids were able to keep their dresses from getting dirty. Good job girls!

And did I mention that it was also very cold and windy? These girls were brave.

Let’s get back into the limo and head to the banquet hall.

Here are some photos showcasing some of the beautiful decor and delectable dishes Sue and Bo have chosen for their guests that night.

Let the party begin! Here come the newlyweds, Sue and Bo Chen.

They start off with a beautiful first dance.

Then followed by the wedding party with their dances.

Some poignant moments. Always my favorite kind of moments to capture.

Sue said… LET’S PARTY!!!!

And here’s how Sue tossed her bouquet to the next bride-to-be.

Making the rounds, around the banquet hall to thank everyone for joining them in celebrating their special day.

Once again, Congratulations to you both.

The Big Tease III ~ Fire & Ink

Post by fotolistic on January 24th, 2010   In Category : Fashion, Meetup, On-Stage, Photography

The Big Tease III ~ Fire & Ink….So where are my photos of "The Big Tease I" and "The Big Tease II"? Unfortunately, I wasn’t there to cover those events and what a shame that was! So many missed photo opportunities! The Big Tease is an annual event organized by the ** NY Pin Up Club ** (Brandon Herman) that showcases pin-up fashion, burlesque performances and other sideshows geared towards entertaining and fueling our appreciation of the genre.

This year’s event showcased two pin-up fashion shows:
"Matinee" by Jacci Jaye featuring rockin’ red hot corsets
"Bombshell" by Keriann, featuring retro-styled swimsuits

Followed by a series of sexy burlesque performances by:
Kristen Lee aka "Miss Coney Island Pin-Up" 2008
and Arden Leigh

Last but not least, Fire Performances by
Justina Flash
and Miss Em

It would be an understatement to describe the event as spectacular. As you view my photographs, I hope that you can feel the level of energy and excitement I felt.

All photographs shot in Raw Format with a Canon 5D on Shutter Speed Priority.
I used either a 50mm f/1.4 Lens or the 85mm f/1.8 Lens at ISO 1000.
There are a handful of photographs shot using the Orbis Ring Flash.
Processed with Aperture and Photoshop CS4.

My friend and I walk into Don Hill with the band Rocko Dorsey was already playing.
Boy, can he sing and put up a show!
Not to mention I got some great photos capturing his onstage charisma.

The opening act for the burlesque show was performed by Arden Leigh. Her skit was very inviting and interactive. So much so that she actually walked into the enraptured crowd, grabbed a bewildered photographer and gave him a big wet kiss. What a lucky guy! Let’s just hope he wiped the lipstick off his mouth before he got home to his wife.

Follow by Miss Em… Let me tell you, she’s hot!

Fire hot, that is…I think my lens melted a bit.

Ahhh… Miss Coney Island Pinup 2008—Kristen Lee. I bet she gave a great performance because the second she got into the spotlight, everyone by the edge of the stage stood up, blocking my view. The following photos were shot with the camera held high above my head. Doesn’t pay to be short in this case…

Some highlights of the corsets fashion show.

Justina Flash, with her spectacular burlesque performance while all the while, twisting a flaming hula hoop around her body.
Talk about multi-tasking!

These are my high-key glamour portraits of the night. However, many of them were serendipitously lit by the spotlights or someone else’s flash firing off around the model.
These photographs were mostly overexposed due to the extra light throwing off my camera’s metering.
Luckily, I was able to salvage the image with Photoshop.

The following portraits were shot using the Orbis Ring Flash adaptor. This is the third time I’ve used it in public since acquiring it last year. The results are quite in line with what I was hoping for. See for yourself.

Ashton Warren and her delicious cupcake minis.

Playing around with vintage effects using an image of fabulous Kristen Lee.

Last but not least, another vintage effects photo featuring Miss Em and Kristen Lee.

  3. Hullo, how are you doing? I really like your blog! I was wondering if you might assist me (I am certain other readers might also be interested). I want to get into creating a blog also and I currently write a blog with Wordpress, but it is quite confusing for me to create and I would like to attempt to get several training materials or courses (hopefully free) that can hopefully assist me in making use of Word Press correctly. As a word press web master yourself, do u maybe maybe know where i could learn tutorials to be able to do this myself?? Thank you

Sue & Bo’s Engagement Photo Session

Post by fotolistic on November 23rd, 2009   In Category : Engagement, Photography

A photographer may go to great lengths trying to capture that one special engagement portrait. However, those willing to express themselves on camera are the ones who’ll bring magic to your photographs. In this case, it’s Sue and Bo.

Bo is a high school friend of mine and it’s been years since we’ve last seen each other. As we sat inside a restaurant, discussing the ins and outs of an engagement shoot, I could already feel this was going to be an exciting session. They were gregarious and not at all shy about sharing seven years worth of stories, include the tale of their proposal at Top of the Rock.

Sue and Bo have great chemistry together which made the session especially interesting for me. Their playfulness and loving interaction captured at the shoot were just some of the things that made these photos as visually inviting as chocolate cake! I hope you enjoy them much as I do!
